BOROUGH COURT - THIS DAY
John Brady, labourer, Ashburner-street, was charged at the instance of James Lord, with assaulting him on the 2nd. inst. - Defendant said the complainant was committing the most dreadful assault upon his wife, beating her "like as though he was going in for £100 a side", and he (Brady) merely interfered to prevent "murder being committed". A witness, named William Lee, who was called by Brady, said the complainant treated his wife in a most inhuman manner, that he got periodical fits of madness, and that he ought to be placed in a madhouse. The magistrates dismissed the case.
ELLEN Latham, washerwoman, without any residence, was charged with being drunk and incapable in Oxford-street on the 5th inst. - Police Constable Gaskell said he found her lying in an entry. This was her fiftieth appearance in court as a loose character. She was fined 5s and costs.
