OWEN Coyle could have played his last game for Wanderers.

The Scottish striker appears surplus to requirements at Burnden Park after a deal was agreed yesterday with Dundee United. Wanderers boss Roy McFarland confirmed: "We had agreed a fee with Dundee United for Owen Coyle and allowed them to speak to him."

Coyle (left) was back at Bolton today after failing to agree personal terms but Bolton's willingness to part company with Coyle is likely to spark interest elsewhere.

The 29-year-old boasts an impressive goalscoring record at senior and reserve team level with Wanderers and could represent good business for a team short of scoring power with £500,000 to spend.

Speculation today linked him with a possible player-plus-cash deal for Swindon Town striker Peter Thorn who Wanderers enquired about earlier this week.

Town boss Steve McMahon turned down an initial £1million offer for the former Blackburn Rovers front man who joined the Wiltshire club for a bargain £250,000 last season.

Despite injury problems which have restricted Thorn to just two appearances this season, his value and reputation have rocketed.

Meanwhile, record signing Gerry Taggart's troubled start to his Wanderers career suffered another major setback last night when he was sent off in the reserves.

He faces severe internal punishment as well as an automatic three-match suspension for retaliating to a bad tackle.

McFarland said: "What happened last night was all of his own making and he will be dealt with internally.

"These things happen in football and it is all about how you react to it. What he did is not what is expected of players and we don't like it.

"He reacted to the incident and he has let himself and his teammates down."
