IT might be a match made in heaven but the coming together of a fanatical Wanderers supporter with a Bury season-ticket holder is most certainly not 'match of the day'.

Accountants Stephen Hutchins from Bradshaw and Sally Wardle from Seedfield, Bury, take their vows tomorrow at Bury Parish Church. They will promise to love, cherish and care for one another - but agree to disagree over their respective football teams.

To add to the confusion Stephen, 26, who works in the British Virgin Islands, is the brother-in-law of Bury's striker Phil Stant, who was instrumental in Bury's 4-2 win over Division One team Sheffield United on Tuesday night. And Phil, as you might guess, plays for Bury but comes originally from Halliwell.

Stephen wouldn't say they were a family at war - "I wouldn't go that far," he laughed. But admits that he and his fiancee try and avoid talking about the fortunes of their respective teams.

"Luckily the teams are in different divisions. Mind you if I mention that it winds Sally up, because we're in the Premier league and Bury's in the Fourth Division. So that's another subject we try and avoid."

The couple met two years ago and have endured long separations as Sally works over here and lucky Stephen is based in the Caribbean.

But after a honeymoon in California and a quick trip back to Bolton the pair will set up home under the tropical sun.

Stephen, returning to the subject of football again, said: "We're coming back from California to Bolton on Wednesday, October 25 and I've got my fingers crossed that Bolton will be playing against Leicester in their Coca-Cola cup match. I don't want to miss that!"

Commenting on his brother-in-law's match with a Bury season ticket holder, Phil Stant said: "We have been trying for ages to convert Stephen into a Bury fan. I think this might be the first step."
