SIR: I must express my concern about the plans for the Sport and Exhibition Centre which is going to be built on Manchester Road. Never mind building it there, it will cause more traffic, leading to more congestion.
Have Bolton Council not thought about that big space in Bow Street, where the old Co-op used to be? They could build the Exhibition Centre there. To make more room, knock Bow Street car park down, and put a smaller one where the old dilapidated fire station is. What about Morrisons and Sainsburys? These are both within yards of each other. The bus station could have been built where Morrisons is. There are three Jobcentres in Bolton, and the town only needs one. Why not knock one of these down and put the fairground there? The plans the Council are making are ridiculous. The town needs some outer ring roads, or an extra dual carriageway, otherwise the town will go nowhere. There are changes needed if this town's ever to become a city.
