A TOTAL of 150 girls took part in a noisy "splash-tacular" at Radcliffe baths.

The girls - rainbows, brownie guides or young leaders aged four to 16 - were competing in the 1st annual swimming gala of the Farnworth division of the Guides.

They were cheered on by friends and relatives and a big hit of the night was a "guiders' novelty race", when guiders had to swim the length of the pool dressed in night attire and holding a lighted candle!

A disco and presentation evening will be held tomorrow when all those who took part will receive certificates.

The winners of the finals will each receive medals.
