AN ambulance paramedic had a gun pointed at his head as he treated an injured woman in Bolton last night. Mark Healey, who was answering an emergency call with student paramedic Jason Herd from Bolton North ambulance station, was crouched over the bleeding woman at a house in Park Road when a man pulled what appeared to be a firearm. The man, in his forties, waved the gun around and threatened the two ambulancemen.

Mark said today: "It was very frightening. I just wanted to get away.

"I shouted to residents who had gathered round that he had a gun and they all scattered."

Two police officers called to the scene ordered the man to hand over the weapon, which was found to be a toy immitation.

Mark added: "I am still shocked when I think about what could have happened.

"I have seen shootings in Salford but I have never had a gun pointed at me before.

"It was the most frightening experience I have ever had in nearly 10 years in the job. I was shaking like a leaf." The woman, who was bleeding from cuts to her wrists, was taken to Bolton Royal Infirmary but was not seriously injured.

A man was later arrested and charged with affray. He was expected to appear in court later today.
