GRAN Isabelle Breen's life-long dream is set to come true . . . with a trip to see the Northern Lights.

The 84-year-old from Eagley is being taken to Aberdeen by Bolton Lions in the hope of seeing the spectacular Aurora Borealis show of polar light.

Mrs Breen, whose grandfather was a Scot, entered the Lions' "Wish Week" competition where local people were invited to tell the charity group their dearest wishes.

The club was delighted to hear Mrs Breen's request to see the Northern Lights and made enquiries about setting it up.

Past president Douglas Darroch got in touch with Cross Country Trains and they are providing first class travel for Mrs Breen, Mr Darroch and his wife. Accommodation is being provided in Scotland courtesy of a Lions club member.

A local man is set to give Mrs Breen a slide show of the Northern Lights and will present her with a photograph of the slide of her choice.

Attempts will be made to see the lights while Mrs Breen is on her three day stay, but it is a hit and miss affair, explained Mr Darroch. "The lights are very difficult to see, but we are going to do our best," he said.

Mrs Breen is looking forward to her trip, due to take place at the end of the month.

"It is something I have always wanted to see, but I have never been to that part of Scotland.

"I am really looking forward to going on the trip," she said.

Mrs Breen is actively involved with the Bolton Burns Club. She only retired from the committee last year after a total of 35 years' service.

Her husband Harry, who died seven years ago, was a past president of the club and Mrs Breen's daughter-in-law is the vice-president this year.
