LEEDS teenage star Paul Cook has been handed a dual role for his full England debut tonight against South Africa at Headingley, his home ground.

Cook, who made his England debut as a substitute in Wednesday's 46-0 thrashing of Fiji, is in the starting line-up as full-back and has been handed the extra responsibility of goal-kicking by coach Phil Larder.

With tournament also-rans South Africa having been hammered 86-6 - a world record score in an international - by Australia in midweek, Cook and his colleagues could have a field-day.

Larder has said there are still places up for grabs in the 17 when England play Wales or Western Samoa in the semi-final at Old Trafford next Saturday.

Wigan's Martin Offiah returns tonight after missing the opening two group games with a thigh strain.

England have already booked their last four spot but Larder is looking for a quality display as well as a good result tonight.

"It's important we put in a top performance," he said. "There are obviously certain players who are battling for semi-final positions," he says.

St Helens scrum-half Bobbie Goulding, who had a magnificent game against Fiji in skipper Shaun Edwards's absence, is a substitute tonight.
