MEMBERS of Bolton and District Animal Rights held a demonstration outside fast-food restaurant McDonald's.
An effigy of Ronald McDonald was hung on gallows outside the Knowsley Street branch in the town centre.
The demonstration was held to coincide with the annual world food day.
There are also plans to picket the stores in Derby Street and Blackburn Road in Bolton.
A spokesman for Bolton and District Animal Rights said the idea behind the demonstration was to show how the McDonald's chain was responsible for destroying rain forests, slaughtering millions of animals every year, promoting a bad diet and exploiting staff.
A spokesman for McDonald's said: "If these people took the trouble to look in depth at these issues they would realise their claims were incorrect.
"The Bolton restaurant remains a popular one for customers and we listen very carefully to what our customers tell us."
