The Lancashire skipper took the award after finally breaking into the England Test side where he quickly established himself with two outstanding performances.
The 34 years-old Westhoughton man led Lancashire to a Benson and Hedges victory but capped a successful season by being selected for the South African Tour which embarks tomorrow.
Dominic Cork, the 24-year-old Derbyshire all-rounder was also given the perfect send-off by being named Cricketer of the Year at a special presentation lunch in London.
