MANAGER Stan Ternent today said sorry to the fans who followed Bury to last night's 4-0 humiliation at struggling Scunthorpe.
The passionless performance leaves the Shakers needing to beat Wigan in the remaining group game in a fortnight to progress to the first round proper of the Auto Windscreens Shield.
But Ternent's initial concern was for the supporters who spent the time and cash to witness the disaster.
"I would like to apologise to those fans for an absolutely disgraceful performance," he declared.
"And they can rest assured that it will not happen again from the players I turned out last night.
"Professional footballers are paid a good wage. People have paid hard earned money to watch them and they have not performed anywhere near their capabilities. I'm at a complete loss for words."
Bury have an early doubt about striker Mark Carter's fitness for Saturday's visit of Scarborough when the Shakers will be looking to continue their encouraging league revival.
The veteran front man limped off after just 36 minutes last night after pulling a hamstring.
