DAN and Jim Sherry are two examples of local lads who have made good. They were born and bred here in Bolton and were part of a family team that built up a big music hall reputation. Besides Dan and Jim there were three other brothers, making a quintet that went a very long way. Nowadays the tradition is being maintained by the two of them, who, ambitious as ever, have got together a road show and called it Mine's a Sherry. It makes its appearance at the Grand next week.
THE SMOKE NUISANCE
With what degree of impurity some of the proprietors of large works in Bolton are permitted to becloud the atmosphere with smoke and impregnate it with matters prejudicial to health, our readers have a pretty good idea. But it appears that the authorities of Salford are not restrained in their efforts to suppress the smoke nuisance by any feeling of respect or kindly consideration for any parties immediately or remotely connected with this borough, for at the Salford Town Hall, on Thursday, the executors of the late Alderman Robert Heywood, were charged with allowing the chimney in connection with the Crescent Bleachworks to emit black smoke in such a quantity as to be a nuisance, and an order was made against them under the Nuisance Removal Act to prohibit and prevent a recurrence of the nuisance under the penalty of 10s. a day.
