SIR: I have just read about Michael Bolton in the BEN. I am pleased he is spreading our fame to America.
But you got the chant wrong about Bolton Wanderers.
It should read: "We are the one and only Wanderers".
This chant, I believe was first heard at Pisa in Italy in November 1993. A nice young mad Bolton fan called Martin (known to us as Mad Martin) and my son Daniel started chanting it and soon everyone joined in and kept singing for about 40 minutes non-stop. I am sure it helped the Wanderers to get a 1-1 draw in that Anglo-Italian match. Jimmy Philips scored the goal.
We had a fantastic time in Italy. Now every time this chant rings out, we remember where we first sang it. It was like carnival time. The Pisa fans were nearly non existent. There must have been at least 500 Bolton fans there and only about 50 from Pisa.
Those were the good old days, let's hope we get up the premier soon. Of course we will support them, wherever they end up.
