SIR: I refer to Cllr Jim Alker's remarks (BEN, October 18) regarding funding in different areas of Bolton. Harper Green Residents' Association would be alive now, if we had been having the funding given in other areas.
I have been trying to get a Community Centre for years. I have written to Leisure Services and filled so many forms I got sick. The reply was always "Get a venue and come back". How can you get a venue without funds?
The residents asked, why can't we get a community centre? Why don't we get money?
I understand Jim. I lived for many years in Kearsley, it was a good place until we were "taken over". It was the worst thing that happened to Kearsley and they "killed Farnworth". It's just a place to drive through.
I suggested at the time that we should turn the council offices into a community centre. I even tried campaigning. I wrote to the BEN and my letter was published with a picture of the building.
It was not to be. The last building in Kearsley was sold. The residents of Kearsley have a great need for a community centre. "Come on powers that be, get some money in the other side of Bolton for a change.
