A PREGNANT woman and her boyfriend were saved by a newly-installed smoke alarm after an arson attack on their home early today.
Zelda Norris-Mather and Andrew Syddall were trapped after small fires were started all round the semi-detached house.
They were woken by a smoke alarm, fitted only last week after another incident.
Zelda's mother, Lesley Norris41, who lives near her daughter in Hollycroft Avenue, Darcy Lever, was woken by screams.
"I could hear her shouting for me. Zelda was hanging out of her bedroom window," said Lesley.
"It just looked as if the whole house was on fire and I thought they would never get out alive."
Lesley tried to break down the front and back doors, with the help of neighbours and her 19-year-old son, Jake.
Eventually Andrew, 26, managed to race through the thick smoke and flames to opened the front door.
Zelda and Andrew were detained in Bolton Royal Infirmary after inhaling smoke.
Police said a man was helping with their enquiries.
