BOLTON had 1.4 inches of rain in 24 hours after last night's downpour. A Weather Centre spokesman said: "We've had 3.36 inches of rain in the Bolton area this week."

MR Aneurin Bevan, Minister of Housing, today said: "I am not going to allow the building of luxury houses while people have no shelter over their head. I believe the main source of our housing programme will be the traditional type of building. He said there was an estimated need for up to six million new homes.

MISS Grace Egerton, who has been some years before the public, is announced to appear in her popular entertainment 'Sketches of Odd People', in the Temperance Hall tonight and tomorrow night, assisted by Mr George Case, the eminent concertina player. Miss Egerton (Mrs George Case) has just returned from a successful tour in the United States, and has, no doubt, added to her portfolio of oddities, a few of the characters she met in that country. We know of no lady at present before the public, with the exception of Miss Emma Stanley, who is at all equal to Miss Egerton in the capability to hold an audience well in hand a couple of hours.
