CAMPAIGNERS hoping to bring the railway back to Horwich are hoping to enlist the support of the town council. Following a hugely successful public meeting attended by more than 80 people in the town last week, three of the organisers are planning to address councillors at the next meeting of the Finance and General Purposes Committee on November 13.
Mr Lee Johnson, one of the four friends who launched the Horwich Rail Link campaign said the next step was to have a feasibility study carried out on the options available and precise routes.
The group will also be seeking finance for the venture and hope Greater Manchester Transport Authority will make the rail link one of its priorities for funding. They are also investigating the possibility of European Grant Aid.
"There is a definite feeling that there are great possibilities for Horwich" said Mr Johnson.
He said the recent public meeting showed there was strong support for proceeding with the rail link. Another meeting will be held on Monday November 20 at Partners Restaurant in Horwich starting at 7.30pm.
