SIR: I refer to the sad closure of Bolton's only town centre sports centre - Silverwell Street.
For the users and ratepayers, why were the facilities not kept open until the new college facilities on Manchester Road were opened? It is another 10 months before we have a town centre sports centre again. The situation is ridiculous; an empty/closed sports centre which was being used regularly, while we all wait for the new one to be finished.
We used Silverwell Street on Sunday nights, by contract, for five-a-side football for 12 years, only to be discarded now it has closed. I have written to the Town Hall regarding this matter, only to be told they have yet to make a decision on whether or not to open a sports centre on Sunday nights. They told us we would be relocated to enable us to carry on with our football, a decision which should have been made months ago.
A thank you to all ex-Silverwell Street staff who were great over the years.
