SIR: It has been wonderful to see churches united in opposition to the Lottery. I therefore urge:
The enforcement of the 1968 gambling Act which providedthat there should be no stimulation of gambling beyond the existing demand, but which has been ignored.
Immediate help, should be given to organisations which aid problem gamblers and warnings about the dangers of addiction should be displayed at all outlets."
Preparations should be undertaken to wind up the national lottery by terminating the agreement made with the Camelot consortium. We are going to see an increasingly united stand by the Church on current issues, (violence in society, homelessness, drugs, youth crime) in the years ahead as revival sweeps across Britain.
