A BESOTTED Bolton woman with two great loves - her football team and her man - had a double celebration this week.

As her dream-team Wanderers won their match against Arsenal 1-0, her red-faced boyfriend was saying "Yes" to her marriage proposal - flashed up on the giant screen at Burnden Park.

Denise Goodier of Eustace Street, Great Lever persuaded Burnden staff to display the message in lights: "Stephen - Your Denise loves you more. Will you marry me please, I need you?" Denise, 28, admits: "We both love Wanderers and I just thought this would be the perfect way to ask him.

"I'd put in my request that morning and I was stood next to him as it came across the screen just before the match. His face was such a picture and he looked so embarrassed I began to worry about his response. But happily he agreed."

Denise admits to embarrassing Stephen, 23, of Station Road, Blackrod, on several occasions during their five month and one week courtship.

"I kept sending him red roses at work but he made me stop," she giggled. "But I've got round that and managed to embarrass him again."

After the match Denise says she spent two hours on the phone. "I had to ring up everyone I'd told I was going to do it to tell them the news.

"I think Stephen was the only person who didn't have a clue I was going to propose." The happy couple expect to tie the knot next August and Denise has definite ideas about how the wedding should be staged.

She wants to marry on the turf at Burnden Park with her two children, Natalie, 9, and Nicolas, 6, kitted out in the Wanderers' strip.

"It would be perfect," she said.
