Walkers chased and generally gave the Tottington team very little time to settle on the ball but just needed a goal to finish off their play.

Tottington went 1-0 up through Gary North half way into the first half and despite not playing their usual game generally created the better chances and never looked comfortable with their lead after half time.

Both teams started where they left off. Walkers keeping the pressure on Tottington without really getting on top and midway through the half Gary North got Tottingtons second goal against the run of play to give them a 2-0 win.

British Aerospace lost to Summerseat 4-0 in a high scoring tie, goals for Aerospace, Richard Collier (two), Duncan Edwards (two), Steve Nichols (three).

Hindley Green and Atherton C & N fought out another close tie, Hindley winning 3-2 their goals coming from Manny Flores (two) and Jimmy Souter. C & N's goals by Mark Smith and Steve Quest. Hindsford AFC disposed of Farnworth CC 4-2. In a very close first half which ended 1-1 both teams played some very good football. In the second half Hindsford set about the Farnworth goal and twice hit the crossbar before finding the net three times to get 4-1 up before Farnworth in the last few minutes got a second to make the final score 4-2. Scorers for Hindsford Lee Thompson, Chris Jolley, Ivor Casey and Shaun Burton and for Farnworth Carl Turner and Ian Laithwaite.

The First Round of the Division One Cup, Atherton C & N Res knocked out Blackrod Town 2-9, scoring both their goals in the second half through T Buck and Andrew Rowbottom. Howe Bridge Mills dominated the tie against Hindley Green Res until the last 20 minutes when they ran out of steam and Hindley took over with a hat trick by Steve Hart who took his tally to four with a last minute penalty to make the final score 4-0 to Hindley.

The three Division Two opening round ties were all high scoring games, Atherton S & S beat Ambassadors Res 7-0 in a good sporting game, S & S scorers were Paul Donlon (three), Steve Roberts (three) and Steve Hennis.

Ladybridge lost to Stoneclough Res 5-0, Nick (Chuck) Berry scoring a hat-trick for Stoneclough.

Little Lever were never in trouble against Tyldesley United winning 8-1. Little Lever goals came from Graham Partington (five), John Done, Steven Hoyle and Tony Settle. A good free kick by Mike David gave Tyldesley their consolation goal.

In the Premier Division's only game Ainsworth lost to Ambassadors 1-0 in a drab game, Ainsworth hit the bar twice and had a goal disallowed, Rick Jones netted Ambassadors winner.

Down in the First Division Adlington Athletic lost to Tottington United Res by 3-4, goals for Adlington, Martin Thompson, Phil Arrowsmith and Nick Leather. These were welcome points for Tottington only the second win of the season, goals from Ian Law (two), Neil Yates and Pat Fogerty. After a surge in form over the past few weeks Monton were brought down to earth with a 8-0 drubbing by Turton. On target was Peter Howard (three), Chris Lock (two), Nigel Young (two) and Danny Beswick.

Second in Division Two Tottington United A made up for losing their 100 per cent record last week by beating Ainsworth Res 7-1. Hitting the target were John Jenkinson (four), Andy Law and Rod Lester.

Walkden AFC Res despite being 0-1 at half time to a Phil Clarke goal came back to win by 3-1 against Howe Bridge Mills Res, Darren Tyldesley (two), John Morrison on target.
