A FATHER of two whose hand was severed in a machine at work has undergone surgery to have it sewn back on.
Mr Harold Hargreaves' quick-thinking work mates packed the severed hand in ice which they got from a nearby pub.
The operation to sew it back on was performed at Manchester's Withington Hospital on Wednesday night. A hospital spokesman said today that Mr Hargreaves' condition was satisfactory. The accident happened at WST Engineering, Railway Road, Adlington. Mr Hargreaves of Park Road, Adlington, was working on a circular saw when his arm was severed. He was given first aid treatment by the factory's first-aider Mr Denis Haddon and colleagues rushed to the near by White Bear for the bucket of ice.
