THERE were tears and joy yesterday as workers at British Aerospace were told whose jobs would be safe and who would be made redundant.
BAe workers at the Lostock plant were told there would be 200 redundancies and who would be going but 70 jobs which had been threatened have now been saved.
Around 300 jobs were expected to be axed in the latest round of 570 job losses announced by the company last March. There are now 440 workers at the factory which once employed 3,500.
Most of the redundancies will be made next June but an employee who does not wish to be named said some workers will be gone by Christmas.
He said morale at the Dynamics factory is now at rock bottom, adding: "I'm pleased to be leaving in a way because the pressure has been horrendous with the Sword of Damocles hanging over us."
