BURY must avoid against getting a taste of their own cup medicine against non-league Blyth Spartans tomorrow, according to skipper David Pugh.

The Shakers, so close to becoming giant-killers in the Coca-Cola Cup at First Division Reading on Tuesday night, will find the roles reversed in the FA Cup against the Unibond League Premier Division side at Gigg Lane.

And the players and management are acutely aware of the danger the North East side could pose.

Blyth are one of the most notorious giant-killers with an impressive history of knocking out league sides. But Bury will need no reminding of the task they face.

Memories of the FA Cup defeat at Chorley five years ago remain painful after it sparked the big sell-off of Bury's highly-priced stars such as David Lee, Andy Hill, Mark Patterson, John McGinlay, Charlie Bishop and Phil Parkinson. While only 12 months ago they just managed to scrape through against Bishop Auckland in a penalty shootout at Gigg Lane after the first game and replay both ended goalless.

Pugh warned: "We must not be complacent tomorrow.

"We can't allow ourselves to get carried away by our good performance against Reading and just expect to beat Blyth Spartans.

" They have a history of knocking league clubs out and they must be a half decent outfit to have got this far.

"Tomorrow's game will be totally different to the Reading match. This time the shoe is on the other foot and we go into the game as favourites.

"The onus is on us to take the game to them and try to break them down. But make no mistake, we are expecting a tough game."

Manager Stan Ternent echoed his skipper's words of caution, adding: "The big danger is complacency and it is extemely important that we prepare properly.

"I'll be looking for the same performance that we put in on Tuesday night."

One enforced change sees left back Stuart Bimson ruled out with a fractured elbow sustained at Elm Park and which will sideline him for a month.

Michael Jackson is on standby as a straight replacement or if Ternent decides on a reshuffle David Pugh could be asked to revert to left back with Tony Rigby switching to the left of midfield and Dean West coming back on the right flank.

Another possible change could see striker Mark Carter return alongside Phil Stant if Ternent decides to rest teenager David Johnson who has impressed but failed to score during Carter's four-match absence.
