A BOLTON primary school has been short-listed for a major environmental award.
St Joseph's RC Primary School, Shepherd Cross Street, is one of three schools in the Red Rose Forest area which have impressed the judges in the "Growing Together" project awards being sponsored by the Countryside Commission and Nuclear Electric.
The special wildlife awards, which carry prize money totalling £9,000 are for projects aimed at improving the immediate area around a school or locality.
Television and animal programme presenter Terry Nutkins will present the prizes at Heysham Visitor Centre, Morecambe, on January 24.
If St Joseph's is the outright winner, the school will receive £5,000 and even if it is runner-up there will be a £2,000 second prize.
The competition was open to all schools and youth clubs within Trafford, Bolton, Wigan, Bury and Salford.
The two other short-listed schools are Lewis Street primary school, Patricroft, and Hollymount RC primary school, Bury.
