CHILDREN in Ramsbottom have been rewarded with their own 'kickabout' area after they cleaned up their estate. The clean-up campaign, backed by Manchester and Bury Councils, has transformed a run-down garage site at St Andrew's estate into a safe play area for children. Cllr Anne Beckett, who was involved in the estate-wide campaign, said: "The enthusiasm of everyone concerned has been tremendous.
"This is something that local youngsters wanted and has been supported by their parents and other residents on the estate. It is great to see everyone working together and I am sure that this is just a taste of things to come." The 'kickabout' area has lockable gates to ensure it is not misused. It is hoped that the success of this campaign will spark other improvements and initiatives locally.
