A THREE-year-old girl in care who was snatched on a visit to her parents was found safe and well after police raided a house in Little Hulton last night.

Mary Newton, in the care of Wigan social services since last summer, was found with her mother Ann Newton, 35, at about midnight.

Early reports suggested the little girl had been taken to Ireland.

Police had launched a massive hunt for the child when social workers warned she could be in danger.

But last night the hunt was switched to Little Hulton. Today detectives in Wigan were questioning the mother and three men arrested in connection with Mary's disappearance. The girl was returned to the care of social workers apparently unharmed.

The child went missing on Wednesday during a supervised visit to her parents at a family centre in Platt Bridge at Wigan.

Mary's father, Walter Morrissey, 50, from Platt Bridge, was remanded by Wigan magistrates on Thursday charged with her attempted abduction. MEMBERS of Bolton Mountain Rescue team were again out searching early today for missing Oldham girl Rosemary McCann.

A total of 25 members of the team joined two teams from the Royal Air Force and 10 civilian teams in a search of the Oldham area. Today the Bolton team will be working over areas of rough grassland on the edge of the town at Gladwick, New Earth and Brook Bottom.

Another four members will join the team this afternoon. It is the fifth day members have been involved in the hunt.
