LITTLE Laura Saint has overcome her disabilities . . . and is now in the swim!
The plucky seven-year-old, who was badly burned in an accident as a baby, managed to complete a mile swim at Bolton School and delighted her family.
Laura was nine-months-old when she pulled a kettle of boiling water over and suffered burns to her left arm, chest and legs.
She has already had to undergo two skin graft operations and faces further surgery as she grows.
But mum Carol, aged 30, said Laura, a pupil at St Bedes Primary in Morris Green, copes very well with the problem.
"Most of the time she can cope. Because it happened when she was so small she hasn't suffered any emotional problems.
"She doesn't like people commenting on her scarring, though, and she did once say to me that she wished everyone was burnt and then they wouldn't stare so much," said Carol, of Farnworth.
Luckily the burns have not stopped Laura leading a normal life.
"When she's at school, and wearing her school uniform, she looks just the same as everyone else," said Carol.
She loves water and enjoys swimming, which has delighted both Carol and husband, Stephen, 29.
"We are very proud of her," said Carol.
Laura, who has a three-year-old brother, Jed, swims with Fins Swimschool, which holds classes at Bolton School.
