SIR: I refer to an article featured in the BEN of January 11. Although most shops in Bolton suffer from security problems, we think that it is disgusting that shoplifters have started to target charity shops in Bolton Town Centre.
Some people put this down to being 'a sign of the times' but we at I.C.E. find this practice disgraceful and therefore decided to do something about it. I would like to point out that the installation of CCTV at the 'Scope' shop on Great Moor Street in no way reflects that this shop, in particular, has a bad security problem. The free installation of CCTV systems in local charity shops is a long term project that we have been planning for some time, and 'Scope' was a shop picked at random.
I.C.E. are hoping to install equipment in the majority of charity shops in Bolton during the next 12 months and hopefully by the end of 1997 every shop in Bolton Town Centre, and the surrounding areas will have a system donated and installed by ourselves, providing this is welcomed by the management and staff of course.
