Radcliffe Boro 2 Accrington Stanley 1
RADCLIFFE Boro claimed a second big scalp in four days last night with a 2-1 home win over Unibond Premier Division Accrington Stanley in the Lancashire ATS Trophy second round replay.
The latest victory was even more remarkable as it was achieved without the hat-trick hero of Saturday's FA Umbro Trophy win over Matlock Town.
Peter McRae failed to recover from a damaged hand and was replaced in the starting line-up by former Bury winger Andy Kilner.
Kilner broke the deadlock on 42 minutes with an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area. Five minutes into the second half substitute Pierro Brennan made it two with a clinical finish from close range. Accrington got a goal back on 53 minutes from the penalty spot but were unable to further penetrate a superb Radcliffe defence in which goalkeeper Andy Johnston picked up the man of the match award.
Atherton Colls 3 Nelson 2
(after extra time)
ATHERTON Colls and Nelson had to battle against a ferocious wind as well as each other in last night's NWCL Challenge Cup third round replay.
Colls got the better of both with a hard fought 3-2 win after extra time.
Paul Cameron opened the scoring on 40 minutes only for Nelson to equalise with just ten minutes left.
The new Colls strike force of Peter Oldbury and Graham Dodd made it 3-1 in the first period of extra time with the visitors getting a late consolation.
