A LEAKING window sparked a double drama at a Bolton old folks home. Builders were called in to repair the leaky window. But as they re-felted the flat roof on top of the bay at The Riverside home they accidentally set fire to the timbers with their blow torch.
Then, as manager Ann Collins investigated reports of smoke, she slipped on the garden path, badly spraining her foot and breaking her nose.
Mrs Collins managed to hobble inside and call the fire brigade before she was taken to hospital.
Staff evacuated the pensioners from their home on Wigan Road and they waited in the car park wrapped in blankets until firefighters gave the all clear.
"They were all back inside within a few minutes but I will be suffering for a while yet," laughed Mrs Collins.
