Non-League by JOHN BULLEN WEST Lancs League Round Up
Richardson Cup - Blackrod Town 2 Charnock Richard 4; Vernon Carus 3 Eagley 1. In division one Turton and Feniscowles were locked in a 3-3 draw.
Two goals down after only ten minutes, Turton clawed their way back and hit back with a score from Gary Woods, only for the visitors to restore their two goal advantage and make it 3-1 by half time.
Cooper's side displayed some excellent controlled, patient football in a second half they dominated and eventually earned a share of the points with two fine goals from Jimmy Kahn and Stuart Leigh. While Tempest United were beating Carnforth Rangers 3-0 in division two, their reserves went down 2-1 to Fulwood Arms in their top-of-the-table clash.
Recent signing from Newton, Phil Swinburn, was the star of the show in Atherton Town's 2-0 win at Mitchell Shackleton with both goals.
Manager Harold Crilly was ecstatic about his performance, "Phil's first goal was absolutely incredible. A long throw was flicked on and he hit an overhead kick from about 20 yards out. You couldn't believe the power he got in it and he must have been six feet off the floor. His second goal was a good one but it never got a mention after because that one was so good. It's his first goal for us and I seriously doubt whether anybody has ever hit a better debut goal!" Unfortunately Town's Reserve team championship challenge faltered in a 4-0 defeat by Wythenshawe Amateur Res.
Steve Vychinski's Little Hulton United clocked up a superb single goal win at third place Wythenshawe Town to remain hard on the heels of leaders Abbey Hey. They are now one point behind, with two games in hand.
Mark Foster, showed he is back to his very best after an early season fractured jaw, when his glancing header sealed what could eventually be one of the most important results of the season.
Pennington's 3-3 draw at Coldhurst was yet match dominated by the strong wind. Hughie Toher's side took the lead through Mark Stare before Coldhurst equalised before half-time. The home side went into a two goal lead in the second half before having a player sent off, allowing Pennington back into the game through Brenn Gilbertson and Stare again.
