THE hunt is on for a new Chief Executive of Bolton Bury Training and Enterprise Council - at £55,000 to £60,000 a year plus benefits. The position is vacant following the departure of Geoff Critchley, who resigned for personal reasons in November, 1995. When he beat 450 other applicants early in 1993 the job had been advertised at £40,000 a year plus car and benefits.

The Sunday newspaper advertisement yesterday - placed by a selection agency - said BBTEC was seeking an energetic, innovative leader to place it at the forefront of national TEC performance and development.

BBTEC is one of 82 established by the government nationwide.

It is based in Clive Street, Bolton and has a staff of 90 and an annual budget of £14m.

Another top job is also up for grabs locally. A general manager who will get a "package up to £35,000" is required for Business Link Bolton and Bury following the Government's recent go-ahead for a revised scheme.

The successful applicant will report to the new TEC Chief Executive, when appointed.

He or she - "a quality orientated self-starter" - will lead a team of 14 staff and "maintain excellent working relationships with partners, government bodies and the local business community". Under the original business link scheme, which was changed following a last-minute re-think last summer, the job would have carried the title of managing director and a salary of around £40,000 plus car and benefits.
