A MEETING to highlight the positive side of living in Breightmet is being held tomorrow. It has been called by community officials and residents of the New Lane area, who are concerned about the "bad Press" the area has been receiving.
"This area does have an image problem," admitted community development officer Bill Lovat. "And there's no denying that, like any area, it does have its problems.
"But, there are many people working on projects to improve life here. There are people organising fund-raising raffles, working hard with the young football team, helping the elderly.
"There are individuals like Chris Caldwell from Top o' th' Brow Primary School who are doing so much for the community. "There are good people here, and plenty of ideas for the future. But, even when you're working for the community yourself, it's hard to get the full picture of what is happening everywhere else," he added.
The idea of the meeting, therefore, was to allow people to get together and see what others were doing.
"It's good for the confidence of the people living here, and it's good for people outside the area who don't understand the positive work that is going on," he said.
The meeting takes place at Top o' th' Brow Primary School on Greenroyd Avenue from 12.45pm to 3pm, with a buffet lunch at noon. All are welcome at this free event, and anyone who wants to find out more can contact the New Lane Residents Centre on Bolton 382539.
