MYSTERY surrounds the death of a divorced father-of-three. Bernard Taylor, 45, drowned in the River Croal, in Queen's Park, a Bolton inquest heard. But deputy coroner Mr Bill Swalwell said the event leading up to Mr Taylor's death remained unknown. Mr Taylor, who lived alone in Cross Street, Little Hulton, was discovered in the river by a fisherman on Sunday August 27 last year.
He had suffered head injuries, one of which had received medical treatment shortly before his death.
But a post mortem revealed the injuries had not contributed to his death and there was no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved.
Initial fears that Mr Taylor's death was suspicious were speedily ruled out, the inquest heard.
Mr Taylor had taken a large number of anti-depressant tablets which Mr Swalwell said could have made him confused and unsure of what he was doing.
He recorded an "open verdict".
