A SCHEME aimed at making cycling safer on some of Bury's busiest roads could be up and running before the end of the year.
Council chiefs have given the thumbs up to the plans, which would provide cycle lanes on Radcliffe Road and Bury Road, between the A56 Manchester Road, Bury, and Spring Lane at Radcliffe, as well as advanced stop lines for cyclists on Radcliffe Road and Parkhills Road at the junction with the A56.
Traffic and engineering sub-committee chairman, Cllr Sean Cassidy, said: "The council is committed to helping cyclists enjoy safer travel on the borough's roads." On Radcliffe Road and Bury Road, a 1.2 metre mandatory cycle lane will be provided on both sides.
At the junction of Radcliffe Road and Parkhills Road it is proposed to introduce advanced stop lines. The intention would be for the cycle lanes to operate during the rush hour periods of 7.30am-9.30am and 4pm-6.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
