CAR dealer Peter Harris thought a colleague was playing a joke when he received a less than playful letter from retail giant Toys R Us.

Lawyers for the famous toy store were demanding he changed the name of his Bargains R Us second hand car business.

But the stern letter was not a game and the stunned businessman has been given 14 days to take the reversed capital letter R out of his title or face court action.

This week, the recently opened second hand car firm at Bank Street, Farnworth will be re-christened Bargains ARE Us. It will cost Peter hundreds of pounds to change his sign and redesign all his stationery but he has been told he has no choice.

"It is a bit ridiculous," said the bemused businessman. "It's not like we are selling the same goods."

"At first I thought it was a a joke but when I phoned their solicitor he said it was to stop any confusion. "I told him we just used the first name that sprang to mind but he said it was damaging to their client".

A spokesman for the toy company said: "It appears our solicitor has said everything so there is nothing else to say."
