SIR: Friday morning January 26, 1996, was the most terrible morning I've ever seen. Bolton Council has yet again let the ratepayers down.
No main roads had been gritted. I should know, I'm the lollipop lady for Bowness Primary School, and Secondary School. I am there for one hour and I saw cars skidding, Church Street was like a skating rink. Traffic up and down Church Street and Hall Lane was at a standstill. I had 10 children slip on the crossing, also I myself slipped on the same crossing. I had to crawl to the kerb because I could not get a grip.
The Bolton Council should be ashamed of themselves. We all knew in Thursday's BEN that the weather forecast was going to be bad. How come Bury Council had gritted two days before the bad weather? Why do the Bolton people pay their council tax, I just hope there is an outcry this time because the same thing happened last year. Let Bolton Council know how you feel about it.
