A NINE-year-old girl was rescued by firemen after a game of soldiers left her trapped between two portable cabins.
Katie Williams was playing with friends on spare ground in Mobberley Road, Breightmet, last night.
The five steel cabins are used by Bolton Council to store equipment for housing repairs.
Katie was playing on the roof of the end cabin when she lost her footing and plunged into the gap just a few inches wide. She was unable to move and her brother Paul, aged seven, and two shocked friends were also unable to help.
One of the youngsters, Katie Roberts, also nine, ran to her home nearby where her father called the fire brigade.
He came back and placed bricks and a football beneath Katie's legs to support her until firemen arrived. Firemen said Katie was brave throughout her ordeal.
A pupil at Roscow Fold School, she said: "I was playing army and was running on the roof when I slipped and fell.
"I was stuck but I didn't feel frightened because I knew I was going to be okay."
Five firemen used hydraulic equipment, rescue lines and a sling to lift Katie to freedom. The cabins were pushed apart and Katie emerged a little shocked but without a scratch.
Her mum Georgina, aged 28, said the children were hoping to send a card and chocolates to the firemen at Crompton Way to thank them for the quick rescue.
