SIR: I refer to the letter In the Club? (BEN, May 2). I feel there are a few facts that Businesswoman of Westhoughton is completely unaware of.
I worked "on the "door" as a supervisor (bouncer is a word that went out with the fifties dance halls) for 16 years.
Some pubs and clubs pay an agency to provide door staff. The manager of the establishment dictates what the door policy is; not the lads with bow ties.
This can range from no-one admitted with denims, trainers etc. If a person is thought to have consumed too much alcohol it may be he is stopped from entering on the grounds that he could upset other people and an incident may occur. It is stupid to "knock back" decent, respectable people and I can assure you the management would soon have the doorman replaced.
So take up your case with the management and don't blame the poor doorman. He gets enough hassle as it is.
