EAGLEY suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the final of the Bolton Hospital Cup when they went down to a last minute winner from Haslingden at Burnden Park.
The local West Lancs League side looked to be on their way to victory when they bounced back from going a goal behind to take the lead.
Eagley's rivals from the North West Counties League took a deserved lead on 25 minutes through man of the match Andy Morley.
The goal sparked Eagley into action and Peter Morris equalised with a header on 35 minutes.
Seconds later Villagers' striker Phil Hutchinson wrote his name into the competition's history books for scoring in every round of the competition when he cleverly anticipated a headed back pass and he produced an exquisite chip 30 yards. The second half saw Haslingden fight back with Andy Clarke equalising with a cheeky header before McDonald put Haslingden's name on the cup for the first time.
Paying tribute to the finalists, tournament organiser Peter Conroy said: "They put on a tremendous show and the whole thing was a great success. It was certainly a good advert for local soccer. There wasn't a single caution and the entire game was played in the right spirit."
