ACCORDING to a new policy revealed by the town planners' professional body the Royal Town Planning Institute, ethnic minorities should get special rights to build mosques, open takeaways or extend their homes.

It is a nonsensical and dangerous concept of double standards that could cause endless trouble. As David Shaw, MP for Dover, points out it is "political trendyism" taken too far.

Planning laws, like any laws, should apply equally to everybody, otherwise racial tension? will be heightened rather than diffused. Every planning application, irrespective of who makes it, should be judged on its merits.
