Stoke Res 1, Wanderers Res 0 WANDERERS fought hard to end their season on a high note at the Victoria Ground last night but Stoke took the honours with a David Talbot goal two minutes into the second half.
Marcus Hallows tested home keeper Carl Muggleton with a volley but that was the only decent effort of an almost chanceless first half.
Hallows tested Muggleton again early in the second half and from then on Wanderers had the edge, despite being behind.
Lee Potter was off-target with a header and just failed to latch onto a Stuart Whittaker pass following a 60-yard break. Wanderers did everything but grab an equaliser in the closing 10 minutes - Muggleton saving Steve Quinn's shot after good work by Dutch trialist Bjorn Lindenbergh then pulling off a spectacular last minute save to keep out a Potter volley.
Team: Westhead, Powell, Aljofree (sub Minchella), Whitehead, Strong, Taggart, Lindenbergh, Quinn, Hallows, Potter, Whittaker.
