SIR: I could not believe the ignorance of Susie Turner when I read her letter in Viewpoint on Wednesday. I am Jade Goulding's grandmother and I was with her on the day that she got burnt by an ordinary pastie.

It was heartbreaking to hear my two year old granddaughter cry because of the agonising pain which the pastie caused, and knowing there was nothing I could do about it. The assistant did offer us some cream to put on the burn. I knew that it would only make her leg worse.

Later on that day Jade had to go to BRI because her leg had gone so much worse. I rang Greenhalgh's to tell them that Jade was worse and going to the hospital, but the lady who I spoke too kept asking if I wanted 'food vouchers'.

Jade had to have more visits to the hospital and then to her doctor's for a fresh dressing and check that it hadn't been infected. The staff at the hospital were wonderful with her. All we wanted to do was prevent this incident happening to any other child or adult.

I just hope that her leg does not permanently scar, so that later on in life she is not conscious about wearing shorts or swimwear.
