COMPANIES in the Bolton City Challenge area could get up to £30,000 to help cover expansion or refurbishment costs.

"Support For Enterprise", a joint initiative between Bolton Metro and City Challenge, won £800,000 from the European Regional Development Fund earlier this year to distribute as grant aid.

Manufacturing or non-retail service companies are eligible as long as they are based in non-mill premises and are small to medium sized firms with a turnover of under £16 million. The grants are available for refurbishment (both internal and external) to bring unused areas back into productive use. They can also be given for expanding existing premises or installing security measures.

In some cases, up to 75pc of costs can be covered by the grants. Companies interested in applying for a grant should contact Bolton Metro's Economic and Physical Development Unit on 522311 and ask for extension 6067 or 6071.
