NOW only less than two weeks away, the Citizen-backed Charity Football Bonanza is almost ready to kick off.
It won't be long before Gladiator Warrior and stars of the small screen and the sporting world head for Chorley for a weekend of fun, fund-raising and football.
Just look at the lengthy list of celebrities who'll be dropping by St Michael's School on Astley Road, Chorley on May 18 and 19.
Ex-Blackburn Rovers ace Glenn Keeley will be bringing his Over 35s team, and Emlyn Hughes will drop by with his All Stars made up of celebrities from Eastenders, Emmerdale, Brookside, Casualty and The Upper Hand.
The weekend starts with an evening of entertainment at the school from 7.30pm on the Saturday with Warrior as compere. A singing duo and Martini's Magic are among the acts, promising an explosive show.
There will also be a grand raffle and a charity auction where you could pick up anything from signed football memorabilia from champions Manchester United, to a meal for two.
The clash comes when our local lads face the celebrities in a double football feature from 10am on the Sunday. The Chorley Hurricanes will take on the Emlyn Hughes All Stars, and the Chorley Wonderers will face the Blackburn Rovers Over 35s - but the home team have the mighty Warrior on their side.
There will also be face painting, kiddies' rides, a bouncy castle and displays from the Territorial Army and the Police. The Crusaders skydivers will show off their breathtaking feats thousands of feet up in the air.
You could even take on the stars yourself in a penalty shoot-out. And there will also be a few stalls to browse around.
And with refreshments available at the licensed bar you'll have everything you need for a perfect Sunday outing for all the family - so long as the sun stays with us!
Organiser Tony Cartwright, from Geoffrey Street, Chorley has always aimed to make this an event to remember. He said: "There should be some annual event like this for Chorley people to look forward to and be proud of.
"It should attract people from out of town, such as Blackburn, Preston and even further afield, to put Chorley firmly on the map."
Funds raised will go towards the school, the Chorley Youth Club and also the Lancashire and Lakeland Cancer Unit currently being built at the Royal Preston Hospital, a project for which the Citizen has raised money for almost two years.
So follow the example of local businesses who have offered their support and money for the event. Get down to St Michael's School on May 18 and 19, have a thoroughly good time, and raise vital funds for good causes.
Tickets for the Saturday night-do are still available, priced £4, from the Citizen office on Pall Mall. Turn up on the day for the football bonanza on the Sunday. Entry fee is £1.75 for adults, £1.25 for children or £5 for a family ticket. It's promised to be a weekend to remember!
