TWO men have been charged following an alleged road rage attack which left a pedestrian fighting for his life in hospital.

Anthony Ashcroft, 30, of Tennyson Walk, Halliwell, has been charged with wounding and Scott Johnston, 33, of Kingwood Avenue, Heaton, with affray.

Both men will appear at Bolton Magistrates Court on June 13.

They were arrested yesterday when detectives swooped on homes in Bolton.

Malcolm Steele, 52, is clinging to life in the intensive care unit at Salford's Hope Hospital. Mr Steele, of Kendrew Road, Bolton, was attacked on Tuesday night after he stepped in front of a van in Chorley Street, Bolton, forcing the driver to brake. He is believed to have then suffered a heart attack.

Earlier this week he underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain.
