HEALTH chiefs in Bolton should investigate why only half of abortions performed in Bolton are NHS funded.
As our report yesterday revealed, this compares with almost 70 per cent nationally and just over 60 per cent in Wigan.
If women are turning to the private sector, the inference must be that Bolton hospitals are not providing a service which is easily accessible.
Another worrying feature of the 1995 Wigan and Bolton Public Health report is that there was a significant increase in the number of late abortions.
These matters need addressing immediately.
