DAWN patrols are on the scent of dog owners who let their pets foul Bury's pavements and verges.
The council's anti-dog fouling team have stepped up early morning and late evening patrols to crack down on owners who don't scoop after their dogs poop.
Anyone caught breaking the town's dog fouling by-laws face fines of up to £500.
But the hard-line approach is being backed up with a fun approach to encourage youngsters - the dog owners of tomorrow - to be responsible. To mark National Pets Week, a man sized "dog" is taking to the streets to hand out balloons and good advice.
The council is offering free poop scoops to the public and the council's two dog wardens will be visiting schools to talk about responsible dog ownership.
A dog advice line is open every Tuesday from 2pm to 2.30pm and every Wednesday from 9.30am to 10am on 0161 764 1485.
