SIR: I refer to Andrew K Berry's letter about soccer played in streets.

This has become a "common complaint', so common in fact, that it has now become almost insignificant.

Just another "old folk's complaint" . It would appear, this is the attitude adopted by those responsible for the safety and well being of our elderly and infirm!

Presumably, if I were to organise an Old Folk's Challenge Match say North v South, to be played on Market Street, Farnworth, with goal posts at Black Horse and Moses Gate we would all finish up behind bars, charged with being in breach of the peace. Despite what may be claimed to the contrary a street is not a football pitch, neither is it a race track or an escape route for stolen car drivers etc.

It is time that someone in authority got their act together and carried out the terms of the Tenant's Agreement and Health and Safety Regulations for which they are responsible.

J Burke, Russell Court, Farnworth
